WHO WE ARE
Passionate about fishing, but here’s a little more
We are on a mission to provide fishermen with an amazing experience and memories of a lifetime that will leave you wanting to come back for more!
Our Guides
Our guides have the knowledge and experience to make the most of your day on the water, be it freshwater or saltwater. They have extensive expertise and skills and have had many hours spent on the water. This experience will make your day the most enjoyable and successful. The team’s objective is to provide you with the very best experiences and ensure your fishing needs are fulfilled.
The freshwater guides have vast of experience tying flies that work in the New Zealand conditions. These skills can be shared in the evenings on the overnight fishing trips. They will teach the clients some new tricks and techniques to further enhance their fishing knowledge. Showing clients who have experience in tying flies new and useful flies, and giving inexperienced clients the opportunity to give fly-tying a go with hands on tutoring.
Our guides are a dynamic group of fishermen with a passion for fishing, wanting to provide you with a professional and memorable experience.
If multiple guides are required for an extensive fishing trip covering the North Island of New Zealand, Brain’s Fishing Guides can deliver.
Brian Young
His love for fishing began during his early years in South Africa, where he experimented with everything from saltwater to freshwater, spinning to fly.
He was the driving force behind the fishing club at his junior school, Graeme College, and has continued to find camaraderie and sportsmanship in the fishing community wherever he goes.
After completing school, Brian joined the Albany Freshwater Angling Club, where he mentored junior members and participated in local fishing competitions.
He then moved to New Zealand, where his dedication to and involvement in the fishing community continued. He is a past president of the Auckland Freshwater Anglers Club, the largest freshwater club in New Zealand, and has recently joined Sport Fly Fishing New Zealand to participate in freshwater competition angling.
As a keen supporter of the charity organisation Casting for Recovery and Reel Recovery, he regularly donates his time to guide cancer sufferers and survivors on freshwater rivers throughout New Zealand.
You can trust Brian to guide you with expertise, dedication and a lightness of touch, helping you to find and land those ever-elusive big fish.
